IT Training

Change CareerInformation on IT training should be avidly sought out.

If there is one skill, nearly above all others, that will be needed in the workplace throughout the 21st Century, it’s IT training.

Think about whatever job you do and think how it’s involves IT. You may be preparing spreadsheets, or working behind the bar, but jobs nowadays depend on quite sophisticated computers.

Think about using spreadsheets for a minute and consider Microsoft’s Excel, one of the most popular applications for doing so.

Most people can stumble through an Excel spreadsheet, loading in figures, creating lists, using the adding function and generally making a good attempt at it.

But most people will only ever use a small proportion of it’s potential. And this is where IT training comes in. If you’re say self-taught on Excel, think what you could unlock if you are prepared to go on a course and learn various aspects of Excel use. Within a matter of weeks you could be in a position to not only ask more from your existing employer, but maybe get a better-paid job, or change your career completely.

And think back to the example of the bar job. Most bars and restaurants these days use tills that would frighten many of us. They are there to not only take money, but identify who is taking the money, provides reports of what is selling and by how much, and also provide re-stocking reports. Failure to get the hang of one of those and you’ll find your probationary period very short indeed. A bit of IT training before you start any job will at least get you accustomed to how a computer operates and what’s expected of you.

Think about how everyone communicates these days. For many workplaces, the telephone is rapidly becoming a redundant piece of kit. The age of the internet and emails are upon us. But if you walk into an office without having had any IT training whatsoever, don’t expect to be able to sit down and bluff you’re way through.

IT training is a must and even if you think you are proficient, it won’t do any harm to get your skills sharpened, or extended with a bit of learning.
